Elastic Recordings

Elastic Recordings is the brainchild of Michael, and double bassist, Dan Fortin. It is a collective imprint, exploring the spaces where composition and improvisation overlap; the points at which nostalgia meets the present moment.

Clock Radio

Vibraphonist, Michael Davidson and double bassist, Dan Fortin are two of Toronto’s most in demand musicians. They have been playing together for over a decade in various creative projects. After working so often as a team, it made perfect sense for the two to focus on the unique musical aesthetic they’ve cultivated over the years. Hence the birth of a new duo named, Clock Radio, founded in 2017.

There is no musical setting more intimate than the duo. Each musical gesture is exposed, and without empathic listening on the part of both musicians, it cannot succeed. These pieces blur the line between composition and improvisation, drawing equally from jazz, free music, and classical composition.

Hobson’s Choice

hobson’s choice is a toronto-based, contemporary chamber jazz group that draws on a wide range of influences, co-founded by Michael in 2006. Blending the improvisation in jazz with an unconventional instrumentation and approach to songwriting, it stands on its own.

Memo

A 3 piece outfit, co-founded by Michael in 2018. This trio turns standard material on it’s head, and explores original spaces where composition and improvisation overlap and discuss. He is joined by co-inventors Eric West, drums, and Mark Godfrey, double & sideways bass.

Michael Davidson’s 4th Spatula

Walkie Talkie

A 2 piece, co-founded by Michael in 2020 with trumpeter, bandleader, improviser extraordinaire, Lina Allemano. The intimacy of the duo, filtered through a lens of improvisation and intricate compositions. A bit of extra normal, with deep listening. Music coming in 2021.

Andrew Downing’s Otterville

A sneaky grouping of clever musicians assembled by musical phenom, Andrew Downing. He nestles in with standard material while reshaping it with the brush of an expert painter, drawing on the absurd and quaint, from twin peaks to otterville.

Aline Homzy’s étoile magique

A quirky, and inventive oufit, lead by violin star, Aline Homzy, exploring her unique take on composition.

Ryan Driver Sextet

PSYCHEDELIC VERSIONS OF LOUNGE BALLADS FROM THE 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s

Elvis Bossa Nova

Re-imagining songs made famous by the King as instrumentals. What began as a weekly residency at Toronto-gem, The Local, blossomed into a deep exploration of the music and ∂evelopment of a level of telepathy that boggles the ∑ind. At its peak the band really could read each other’s minds and go anywhere with the music.
